Some of the highlights of the Blumbergs’ Snapshot of the Manitoba Charity Sector 2022 include:

  • 4,595 Manitoba registered charities filed their T3010 out of approximately 86,000 charities in Canada
  • $13.8 billion in total revenue for Manitoba charities and total expenditures of $13.7 billion
  • Government revenue totaled $10.6 billion including from the federal government ($510 million), provincial governments ($9.3 billion) and municipal/regional governments ($754 million). In total, government is approximately 76.8% of revenue of the whole charity sector in Manitoba.
  • 4,316 identified themselves as active and 175 as inactive
  • 1,645 made gifts to other charities or qualified donees during their 2022 fiscal year
  • Manitoba charities spent over $146 million outside of Canada
  • 4 Manitoba charities received funds from Global Affairs Canada
  • 117 identified having contractual relationships with foreign intermediaries, 49 charities identified that employees conducted activities outside of Canada and 84 had volunteers conducting foreign activities
  • $74 million was received by Manitoba charities from outside of Canada
  • 2,546 identified having employment expenses while 2,017 did not have any employment expenses
  • $7.8 billion was spent by Manitoba charities on salaries and other compensation expenditures
  • $774 million in official donation receipts were issued by Manitoba registered charities
