As we have said many times it is a good idea for charities to get on the CRA MyBA system so that amongst many benefits the charity can file their T3010 online.
Some charities are still filing their T3010 on paper, and this can create a number of problems, including—but not limited to—filing loss, CRA mistakes when entering the data into the system, and significant delays in the information becoming available to the public.
I have noticed that CRA is now sending out notices to charities that have filed their T3010 on paper and the notices look something like this:
Your Registered Charity Information Return (T3010) for fiscal period ending December 31, 2023 was received on July 9, 2024.
Business Number: ………..
Box #: ……….
Target completion date: October 1, 2024
To view more details, sign in to My Business Account and select “Progress Tracker”.
If you do not have My Business Account, you are invited to go to the CRA web page to register.
This is an automated email message. Please do not reply.
It is not clear whether the T3010 was just inputted by CRA on July 9 or it was filed late. What is clear is that it is anticipated that the T3010 will only be processed about 3 months after the filing. Charities who file paper T3010 should check back that the information is actually processed and, just as importantly, that it is processed accurately. Would be much simpler to just file online!
