I recently read an interesting article on the “Regulation of Foreign Funding of Nonprofits in a Democracy” by Nick Robinson. The article provides lots of ideas as to how one can think about the complicated area of how much regulation there should be of foreign funding of non-profits or charities. In Canada, we have very limited requirements relating to foreign groups who wish to fund Canadian non-profits and charities, and on a number of occasions, there have been discussions about whether greater restrictions or even just transparency, would be helpful in protecting democracy in Canada.
