New Upcoming Course – Running and Maintaining a Federal Non-Profit Corporation under the CNCA – An Introduction (2024)

We will be having a new online course on “Running and Maintaining a Federal Non-Profit Corporation under the CNCA – An Introduction” on December 5, 2024, from 1:00 PM EST to 2:30 PM EST.   The cost is $199, but there is an early-bird special if you sign up early enough.  With over 10,000 CNCA corporations recently being dissolved for non-filing of annual returns and a number of scandals involving Federal non-profits, it is increasingly important that CNCA corporations are aware of their legal and ethical obligations.

Here is a description of the course:

Whether you are a non-profit or charity, if you are a CNCA corporation, you have certain obligations to comply with

There are about 47,000 federal non-profit corporations under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (“CNCA”). About 25% of them are registered charities and the rest are not registered charities.

This course will focus on the corporate aspects of having a non-profit under the CNCA. This will be applicable to both non-profits and registered charities, but it will not cover the Income Tax Act (Canada) regulatory requirements for either non-profits or registered charities.

This course covers:

  • Different Non-Profit Types
  • How Do You Know That You are Under the CNCA?
  • Background on the CNCA
  • Governing Documents

  • CNCA Filing Obligations
  • AGMs

  • Biggest Mistakes

This 90-minute course is for directors, officers, employees and volunteers with CNCA corporations. It is not intended for groups that are provincial non-profits, such as the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (“ONCA”) or Alberta Societies, etc.
