The Federal government has improved their Open Data information on registered charities

The Federal government is now providing better information on registered charities on their Open Government Portal website.

Here is the description:

The List of charities presents data on Canadian charities that are registered under the Income Tax Act and are eligible to issue official donation receipts. The data includes details on a charity’s financial information, activities, and directors/like officials. This data is compiled from the annual return each charity must fill out and submit to the Canada Revenue Agency. The dataset reflects data as provided by the organizations.

You can obtain data from 2009 until 2019. All this information and more was and is available from CRA, but you had to make a request and then wait a few weeks to receive the data.

For most people, our CharityData.ca website provides a better user interface to access data from charities going back to 2003.
