It is horrifying to see Donald Trump threatening US universities and charities. Does anyone think that this is the end shortly? Probably not. Americans are going to have to stand up for rule of law and sensible policies.
Trump said on his social media platform that “Perhaps Harvard should lose its Tax Exempt Status and be Taxed as a Political Entity if it keeps pushing political, ideological, and terrorist inspired/supporting “Sickness? Remember, Tax Exempt Status is totally contingent on acting in the PUBLIC INTEREST!” This is interesting coming from a person who had a 501(c)(3) and it was ordered to pay about USD$2 million for inappropriately using charitable funds.
There are many American groups that do work either in America or internationally who have all of their assets in the US and this may not be the best idea if Trump comes after their groups or banks and financial institutions just freeze their assets to please Trump. Some US groups might find it helpful.
Many groups in the US are in shock and processing what is happening. Hopefully, they get out of shock and start taking concrete action. My best thought is to stop thinking of yourself as being in America and start thinking that you are in Nicaragua or Russia or some other repressive country, and it will make your decision-making a lot easier.
