Charity and Sport in Canada: Harnessing the power of sport for Good

September 3, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Webinar

Sport has long been more than just fun, games and competition —it can be a powerful tool for social change, inclusion, and community building. From grassroots initiatives to international programs, sports can be housed in Canada in for-profits, non-profits and registered charities. This webinar will explore the intersection of sport and charitable work, examining how non-profits, registered charities and for-profits in Canada can use sports to promote health, youth development, education, equity, and social justice.  Each vehicle has advantages and disadvantages depending on the circumstances and sometimes more than one vehicle is ideal.   In this webinar we will particularly focus on how sports can be charitable and the limitations that charity law provides for sports.

This webinar is presented by Amanda Werger and Caitlin Lee, who are both lawyers at the law firm Blumbergs Professional Corporation in Toronto.  Amanda and Caitlin work almost exclusively with Canadian non-profits and registered charities on compliance issues.
