The Board/Staff Partnership: Sharing Leadership and Getting Results

February 9, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Webinar

In the context of the board’s main roles and responsibilities, this session will focus on the critical relationship between the board and the chief staff person (CEO/ED) and why the quality of the relationship matters. Characteristics of effective board/staff partnership will be explored, and common sources of conflict will be identified with strategies for how to avoid them.  With a focus on building trust and shared understanding, we will consider times when a board must take the lead, where the chief staff person may take the lead, and when they move forward in shared leadership.  The session will be most relevant to board chairs, board directors, and executive leaders in foundations, and operating charities and nonprofits.

Learning outcomes:

  • Identify the distinct roles of the board and of the chief staff person and the factors that influence their relationship
  • Cultivate an effective board/staff partnership and avoid common conflicts with clear and realistic expectations
  • Build a strong foundation for positive organizational culture with the capacity for open and honest communication

This webinar will be presented by Dr. Sharilyn Hale.
