The Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (“ONCA”) was brought into force on October 19, 2021. This free webinar will be held on October 18, 2023. ONCA applies to all non-share capital corporations that were previously under the Ontario Corporations Act (“OCA”) and are now under ONCA. What should your ONCA corporation do? There are a number of options, and we will discuss them in this webinar, including making changes to bring your non-profit into compliance with ONCA and another viable option for an Ontario non-profit corporation is to transfer to the federal jurisdiction by continuing under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (“CNCA”). The key thing to remember is that most Ontario non-profits have a three-year period to carry out this transition that ends October 18, 2024. Therefore you have only one year left, and for some organizations, one year may not even be enough.
This webinar is presented by Mark Blumberg, a lawyer at the law firm Blumbergs in Toronto, who works almost exclusively with Canadian non-profits and registered charities on compliance issues. Mark is also the editor of www.CanadianCharityLaw.ca – a Canadian charity law website dedicated to news about the Canadian charitable sector as well as legal and ethical issues for Canadian charities operating in Canada or abroad.
For more information on ONCA, see our directory on ONCA. For those Ontario non-profits who want to get going and retain our law firm, you can contact us here. For those interested in Blumbergs paid ONCA course which is online and available 24/7 you can go to Ontario not-for-profit corporations and dealing with ONCA
